Sarah Hanawald, Executive Director for the Association for Academic Leaders, has been working in and with independent schools for nearly 30 years. She has been a classroom teacher, a technology director, and an academic dean at three North Carolina Independent schools, most recently as Dean of Teaching and Learning at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh.
After leaving Saint Mary’s school, Sarah served as the first Executive Director of the Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools (ATLIS), taking the organization from a nascent startup to a sustainable, thriving professional association. She then served as the CEO of One to One Institute, an organization dedicated to digital equity for all learners before joining One Schoolhouse, an accredited independent online supplemental high school. While at One Schoolhouse, she led the founding of the Association for Academic Leaders.
Sarah resides in Raleigh, NC with her spouse and two children.
